How do I install my Trac Product?
Your Trac Product is installed on a single computer that will act as the server and will host your Trac server application. The Trac server application requires a static IP address, a Product ID (found on your CD case), and an installation code obtained from Redrock Software Corporation. The installation is simple and straightforward. Quit all other software before installing the Trac server application.
4.0 Minimum Requirements
- 4 GB Hard Disk Space
- 1 GB RAM (minimum)
- OS with TCP/IP protocol
- Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista/2008/7 32- or 64-bit Operating System on Pentium IV or better or similar Virtual Machine
- Macintosh OS 9.2 or later (OS X recommended) on a G3 or better.
- Internet Explorer 8.0 or later OR Firefox 3.5 OR Safari 4
Dedicated Server Machine
A dedicated server is recommended for high-use campuses where student population exceeds 20,000 and students have the ability to book appointments via the web. Lower activity campuses may utilize multi-use servers or combine the server functionality with the login/out activity.
You will recieve an installation CD after you have purchased your Trac product. Insert the CD into your computer. The computer should automatically run the setup program from the CD. If the setup program does not automatically run, open the CD and run the setup.exe application.
The setup program will automatically install the Trac application to the C:\ directory in the appropriate Trac product folder (i.e. C:\TutorTrac) and start the Trac web server application. At this point you will be asked for your installation information. The installation can easily be moved to another directory later if you do not want your Trac product installed on the C:\ directory. The computer does not need to restart after installation.
You will recieve an installation CD after you have purchased your Trac product. Insert the CD into your computer. The computer should automatically run the setup program from the CD. If the setup program does not automatically run, open the CD and run the setup feature.
The setup program will create the appropriate Trac product folder containing a Webfolder, the Trac application package, and Trac data file. When you run the Trac package, you will be asked for your installation information. The installation can be moved where you like and is typically placed in the Applications directory. The computer does not need to restart after installation.
Product ID and Installation Code
The first time that Trac is run, it prompts you for a Product ID and Installation code. The Product ID uniquely identifies your Trac application. The Installation code unlocks your Trac server application by linking it to the server computer. The Product ID is located on a sticker on your CD case. The Installation code may be obtained from Redrock Software via email at TechSupport@Go-Redrock.com. Provide the static Server IP Address and the Product ID when requesting your Installation code.
The Installation code, Product ID, and Server IP Address are linked together. The web server software now belongs to this machine and will only operate on that machine. If it is necessary to change server machines, you will need to change the new computer's IP Address to the original machine's IP Address, or purchase an additional copy of the Trac product.
